Pop superstar cancels big shows at the last minute, leaving fans stunned

Chappell Roan have quickly become one of the most in-demand musical acts in the world. That meteoric rise to fame has taken a toll on the 26-year-old’s mental health and partly explains why she dropped out of this weekend’s All Things Go festival in New York and Washington, DC.

Roan announced she was dropping out Friday, just a day before the weekend-long event kicked off at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens and Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. She was scheduled to appear in New York on Saturday and in Maryland on Sunday.

“I apologize to the people who were waiting to see me in New York and DC this weekend at All Things Go, but I can’t perform,” Roan wrote in an Instagram Story. “Things have become overwhelming over the last few weeks and I’m really feeling it. I’m feeling pressure to prioritize a lot of things right now and I need a few days to prioritize my health. I want to be present when I play and give the best shows possible. Thank you for your understanding. I’ll be back soon.

The official All Things Go Twitter account posted a message of support announcing Roan’s departure from the event.

“We are heartbroken to announce that Chappell Roan will no longer be performing at this year’s festivals. While we know how much you have been looking forward to the performances, it is important to remember that health and well-being always comes first,” the message read. “All Things Go strongly supports artists who prioritize their well-being and we ask our community to rally around Chappell Roan with love and understanding. Let’s continue to show the world that music fans not only support the art, but also the artists themselves.

This isn’t the first time Roan has spoken out about how his mental health has been affected by his rise to fame. At a show in Raleigh in June, Roan started crying and told the audience, “I think my career is going really fast and it’s really hard to keep up.” » In a recent interview with British music and culture magazine The Face, Roan said that fame sometimes felt “just abusive” to her and that she would seriously consider leaving the industry.

Roan’s decision not to perform was met with mixed reactions from fans. Many support Roan, who has been open about how fame has affected his mental health.

Others were less understanding and frustrated that she would abandon the festival so soon before kickoff.

The cancellation follows Roan’s latest social news videos, in which she confirmed she would vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, despite previously saying she would not support either candidate . His lack of support also fueled backlash from his largely liberal fans.

Roan’s next scheduled performance is Tuesday in Franklin, Tennessee. His next big festival appearance is October 6 at Austin City Limits in Texas. She is also scheduled to perform on “Saturday Night Live” for the first time on November 2.
