Egyptian president signals full support for Lebanon, announces aid deployment

CAIRO

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi informed Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati of Cairo’s support for Beirut on Saturday and ordered the immediate deployment of aid in a telephone call, according to the Egyptian presidency.

Al-Sisi affirmed “Egypt’s full support for Lebanon and confirmed its position alongside it in these critical circumstances, and its rejection of attempts aimed at endangering its security, stability, sovereignty or territorial integrity , emphasizing the need for an immediate, complete and permanent ceasefire in Lebanon.” in Lebanon and Gaza,” he said in a statement.

The Egyptian president “gave directives for the immediate dispatch of emergency medical and relief aid to Lebanon, in solidarity with its people, and affirmed Egypt’s continued support for Lebanon at all levels” .

He noted that “the failure of the international community to assume its responsibilities to put an end to aggressive practices against the Palestinian territories and Lebanon threatens to slide the region into a dangerous state of escalation, which puts stability at stake. and regional and international peace.

The Lebanese Prime Minister expressed “his appreciation for Egypt’s position in favor of his country and the Lebanese state, reviewing the result of the contacts made by the Lebanese government to contain the situation, and welcoming in this context the role played by Egypt in restoring security and stability. in the region. »​​​​​​​

Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in a cross-border war since the start of the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip, which left nearly 41,600 victims, mostly women and children, following a cross-border attack carried out by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas last October. 7.
