Alabama’s Jalen Milroe overtakes Cam Ward as Heisman betting favorite after Georgia win

Every college football season, analysts talk about the race for the sport’s most prestigious prize—which candidates have had their “Heisman moment.” There isn’t necessarily a textbook definition of what qualifies as a Heisman moment, but generally, you know it when you see it. More often than not, it’s either a dominant performance in a marquee match or a game-winning heroic play. In the case of Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, it was both.

The aftershock of Jalen Milroe’s game-winning 75-yard touchdown pass to 17-year-old freshman Ryan Williams is still felt more than 12 hours later. Even FanDuel Sportsbook has undergone a seismic shift, as Milroe, who threw for 374 yards, added 117 rushing yards and accounted for three Tide touchdowns, has now overtaken Miami’s Cam Ward as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

For those on the East Coast who didn’t stay up to see the conclusion of the final games on Saturday’s slate, you missed another dominant performance from Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who has 845 yards and 13 touchdowns in four . matches this season. He is on pace to become the 30th running back in college football history to rush for at least 2,000 yards in a season. Meanwhile, Dillon Gabriel held steady at the Rose Bowl in an Oregon win over UCLA.

But as impressive as the 2-5 candidates were this weekend, the field is still looking for Jalen Milroe after what happened in Tuscaloosa Saturday night.
