Semi-truck kills one person in disabled passenger car in Greenfield Saturday

A semi-truck struck a disabled passenger car and utility pole killing one person Saturday afternoon on the 10500 Block of West Layton Avenue.

The driver of the semi-truck, a 59-year-old Texas man, was not injured and remained at the scene, according to a news release from the Greenfield Police Department.

The Greenfield Police and Greenfield Fire Departments responded to the incident. The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting with reconstructing the accident scene.

The incident remains under investigation by the Greenfield Police Department, according to the release.

The West Layton Avenue detour route for the I-894 eastbound freeway were closed until Sunday morning.

I-894 from the Hale Interchange to the Mitchell Interchange is scheduled to remain closed until 5:30 am on Monday.

According to the most recent data available from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 66 people died in car crashes in Milwaukee County in 2024. In 2023, 91 people died in motor vehicle crashes in Milwaukee County.
