Tk8 lakh looted: 2 Sonali Bank officials, 2 Ansar members hacked in Gazipur

The incident took place this afternoon in Rathkhola area when they were arriving at the main branch of the bank in an autorickshaw with money from the sub branch.

Today (September 29), robbers looted Tk 8 lakh after hacking and firing shots at two state-run Sonali Bank officials and two Ansar members in Gazipur.

The injured are Sonali Bank Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital sub-branch manager Atika Parveen Surovi, treasury manager Farzana Nazneen Simu and Ansar members Al Amin and Raju Mia.

The incident took place this afternoon on Rajbari-Sadar Hospital road in Rathkhola area when they were arriving at the main branch of the bank in an autorickshaw with he money coming from the sub-branch, the Gazipur court branch of Sonali Bank said. Deputy Managing Director Md Shahiduzzaman.

“Twelve people on six motorcycles stopped the auto rickshaw and threatened them with guns and sharp weapons. While trying to snatch the money bag from them, the robbers hacked them. They fired randomly then fled with the bag containing Tk 8 lakh,” he said.

The injured were admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for treatment, he added.

“The incident has been reported to the police. Preparations are being made to file a complaint regarding the incident,” Shahiduzzaman added.

Sadar police station inspector (investigation) Rahedul Islam said the police visited the spot after receiving information.

“An operation is underway to arrest the thieves and recover the money. Legal action in this regard is underway,” he said.
