Try this fun 40-minute Latin dance class from Luis Cervantes

Dance classes are a really fun way to vary your traditional workout routine. Although this video is structured differently than other PS Fit video episodes, the remix session combines two clap-worthy dance classes taught by instructor and choreographer Luis Cervantes. Throughout the session, Cervantes provides easy-to-follow instructions, giving viewers a quick overview of the basics of salsa, including footwork, style and emphasis on hip movement.

This group fitness class is definitely a full-body workout and sure to get your heart rate up, but it’s far from repetitive or boring. In fact, all the dancing during this session is so fun and energizing that you may not even realize the class is almost an hour long. Salsa-inspired dance basics, including footwork patterns, will challenge your coordination and speed, matching the timing of the beat and the rhythm of the music. “Luis always has the best dance practice! He never disappoints!” says one reviewer on the original PS Fit YouTube video.

The first part of the video takes viewers through a dynamic Latin-inspired dance class, building on basic fundamentals to create more complex movements. Assisted by Tiffany Marie and Madisyn Maniff, instructor and choreographer Cervantes certainly gets the room moving, whatever the level. Starting slowly, the class begins with a gradual and easy warm-up. The team demonstrates how to perform beginner footwork and side bends while relaxing the hips and shoulders.

Even if you’ve never tried a salsa class before, Cervantes breaks down technique in a way that’s both simple and easy to follow. Some of the highlighted exercises include side steps and around-the-world patterns. “Even without dance experience, it was so much fun!” one reviewer commented on YouTube.

In the second part of the video, dancers Val Valdiviez and Stephanie Jones help out. With an enthusiastic approach, Cervantes leads the class through energizing footwork, arms and jumps. For beginner-friendly edits, check out Valdiviez on the right side of the screen. For example, Cervantes and Valdiviez opt for low-impact options by replacing some of the more intense jumps with on-the-spot side twists and more ground-based movements.

Whether they’re working on quick footwork, box steps, or rolls, Cervantes and the team are having so much fun throughout. Cervantes offers simple cues and instructions, and the modifications make the course appropriate for a wide variety of levels.

For the final part of the class, Ceravantes takes viewers through a relaxing cool-down period, to reset the mind and lower the heart rate. The class ends with stretches for the upper and lower body, ranging from gentle side bends, forward folds, calf stretches, and neck and shoulder rotations.
