After injuries force cancellation of ‘Scotland, PA’ at Ritz Theater, producers plan additional performances

Did anyone say the M-word, Macbeth, inside the Ritz Theater?

For “Scotland, PA,” the musical based on Shakespeare’s tragedy playing at the Minneapolis theater, has had a run of bad luck. Just before the new season opened, a casting director was replaced. And now the Latté Da Theater, owner of the Ritz and producer of “Scotland,” has had to cancel four of five performances last week due to injuries suffered by two cast members on different days.

The first cancellation concerns the evening performance of September 25. All weekend shows have also been canceled.

Citing confidentiality reasons, Latté Da officials declined to say which actors had been sidelined. They also did not want to talk about the severity of the injuries, but confirmed that they occurred during performances.

“We are working with our understudy group and anticipate the show will go on as scheduled on Wednesday,” said Director of Marketing and Communications Brittany Wallman.

In the musical, Will Dusek and Katherine Fried play a dreamy couple who work at a small-town restaurant in 1975. They want to own their own restaurant and take drastic measures to make their dreams come true.

Adapted from Billy Morrissette’s 2001 film of the same name, the musical is named in a nod to the superstition surrounding “Macbeth,” which theater people call “the Scottish play.”
