A huge star made a shock return to a film set on Tuesday after quitting acting in 2017.

With his gray beard, he looked completely unrecognizable as he filmed motorbike scenes with actor Sean Bean in Manchester seven years after retiring.

The 67-year-old delivered an Oscar-nominated performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2017 film Phantom Thread, then retired from acting altogether.

But he came out of retirement and was seen filming a film called Avelyn in which Sean would play the role of a former soldier.

While it’s not yet clear what role Daniel plays, he was seen in a khaki padded jacket and white helmet while driving Sean.

There was a huge group of crews out on the street filming scenes that seemed action-packed.

In June 2017, Daniel revealed that he had stopped acting.

The British star, who rose to fame in films like Gangs of New York and The Last of the Mohicans, has not revealed the reason for his retirement.

A statement released to Variety by his spokesperson confirmed the shocking news.

Leslee Dart declared: “Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer work as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all his collaborators and audiences over the many years.

“This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on the matter.”

A few months later, in an interview with W magazine, he admitted feeling “great sadness” about the decision, but explained that he felt obligated to make it.

“The desire to stop took root in me, and it became a constraint. It was something I had to do,” he said.

He continued: “Do I feel better? Not yet. I have great sadness. And that’s the right way to feel.

“When I started, it was about salvation. Now I want to explore the world in a different way.

Daniel has won numerous awards during his illustrious career, including three Academy Awards for Best Actor for his performances in My Left Foot (1989), There Will Be Blood (2007), and Lincoln (2012).
