Cheryl Reeve doesn’t deny ‘running’ at Sun players after WNBA playoff loss

The Minnesota Lynx took a 2-1 lead over the Connecticut Sun in their WNBA semifinal series on Friday after posting a 90-81 victory.

However, this win isn’t the most fascinating story to surface Friday about this series.

With Game 3 of the Lynx vs. Sun series underway on Friday, The Athletic contributors Shams Charania and Ben Pickman published an article revealing a strange interaction between Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve and the Sun players after the first game of the series.

“Reeve, a four-time WNBA Coach of the Year and four-time champion, confronted Connecticut Sun players near the locker room Sunday after the first game of the teams’ semifinal series,” the article wrote.

“Reeve’s altercation with Sun players occurred as they were heading toward the opponent’s locker room in Minneapolis, with the 2024 coach and Executive of the Year taking issue with the way Connecticut celebrated its series-opening victory, sources said.”

Sun star Alyssa Thomas could be seen leaning and yelling toward the Sun sideline after shutting the door on Minnesota’s comeback attempt moments before the game ended.

“(Reeve) lunged at the Sun players, as a source with knowledge of the incident described it, and arena security had to get involved to defuse the scene,” the article continued.

Reeve was asked about this alleged confrontation after Game 3 and responded by saying, “It’s like players always say there are people who are really competitive – people who are really competitive in the playoffs,” according to Noa Dalzell from SB Nation.

When Sun coach Stephanie White was asked about the incident, she responded, “I wasn’t there (when the confrontation took place), but it was a week ago. I have no comment to make on this matter,” according to Dalzell.

The Athletic’s article stated that the WNBA “did not respond for comment on the matter. The league is aware of the incident, according to two team sources.”
