December 29, 2013: Michael Schumacher suffers a horrific brain injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps. He was taken to Moutiers hospital in France for treatment and is said to be in “critical condition”. He was then taken to Grenoble Hospital in France, where he spent the next six months.

December 30, 2013: Schumacher undergoes treatment to clear a brain hemorrhage. Doctors discovered serious damage to Schumacher’s brain and the German was placed in a medically induced coma.

December 31, 2013: Schumacher undergoes another operation but injuries remain. According to doctors, Schumacher is showing “slight” signs of improvement. French media also reported that Schumacher’s helmet “broke in two” during the crash.

January 7, 2014: Investigators looking into the crash say excessive speed, faulty skis and a lack of signage are not reasons for Schumacher’s crash. According to investigators, Schumacher threw himself into the air after hitting a rock, before heading towards another.

January 14, 2014: Schumacher undergoes a procedure to remove a small part of his skull, in order to relieve some pressure.

February 17, 2014: The investigation into Schumacher’s accident is closed and no one has been found guilty.

March 21, 2014: According to reports, three months after his accident, Schumacher lost almost 55 kg. Doctors say, however, that such weight loss is expected.

June 16, 2014: Schumacher wakes up from his medically induced coma. He was transferred to a rehabilitation department at the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland, from the intensive care unit of Grenoble Hospital in France.

June 23, 2014: A man allegedly stole Schumacher’s medical documents and put them up for sale.

July 11, 2014: Schumacher’s wife Corina says her husband is showing positive signs of healing from his injury.

August 6, 2014: The man who stole Schumacher’s documents commits suicide by hanging himself in his prison cell. The man had worked as an executive for Rega, a Swiss helicopter company which carried out Schumacher’s transfer from Grenoble to the rehabilitation center in Lausanne.

September 9, 2014: Schumacher returns home to Geneva, Switzerland, but remains unresponsive.
