Shaboozey explained the origins of his stage name, and it makes a lot of sense

Shaboozey is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in music this year.

You’ve probably heard his hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which went five times platinum in the United States and is the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 this year so far…

…And he also contributed to several songs from Beyoncé’s latest album Cowboy Carterincluding “SWEET ★ HONEY ★ BUCKIIN”.

So, Shaboozey’s real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze – and after reading that, you might be wondering, “Where is Shaboozey from?”

Well, fear not, because in a new interview with Billboard, Shaboozey revealed all.

Shaboozey said he picked up the nickname after hearing his high school football coach change the spelling of his last name while growing up in Virginia.

So, Shaboozey transformed “Chibueze” into “Shaboozey” – simple as that.

“It can be a little confusing sometimes,” he explained. “Hearing your name (mispronounced) while you are present has always been one thing; you felt like you had to make it easier for everyone to understand.
