When Rishi Kapoor said he was never unfaithful to Neetu Kapoor: ‘Ripples in the relationship were because…’

Rishi Kapoor recalled how Neetu felt ‘threatened’ when he worked with Dimple Kapadia in Saagar.

Rishi Kapoor has had an illustrious career in Bollywood, but not one that is free from his share of rumors and controversies. In the 1970s, the late actor was rumored to be in love with Dimple Kapadia. When he was offered Saagar opposite the actress, his wife Neetu Kapoor felt ‘threatened’. He described this in his autobiography Khullam Khulla and said that he was never unfaithful to Neetu.

Rishi Kapoor wrote, “Dimple was a friend, even though she may have been a little more than that during Bobby. Ten years had passed; she came from a marriage with two children of her own, and I was also doing well with two children. I never abandoned Neetu in our marriage. I am a happily married man with a loving and supportive wife. Neetu is not just my wife, she is also a friend.”

He continued, “If there were ever ripples in our relationship, it was because of me and never her. And even then, the reasons had nothing to do with any other woman in my life. She has been a rock and supported me in my weakest moments. If there was an Oscar for best partner, for being with someone for better or worse, in every sense of the word, she would get it.”

About working with Dimple in Saagar, Rishi Kapoor wrote, “Neetu must have had some reservations, but she was very dignified about the whole thing. To her credit, she didn’t put her foot down and allow me to do Saagar.”

“She (Dimple) was beautiful back then but had lost her flamboyance and confidence. She also felt the need to claim that she was a great actress. I could tell she was trying too hard to live up to her image in Bobby, but that wasn’t necessary. She was only twenty-five and very beautiful. Here I must mention how much strength her sister Simple was to her at this time. She constantly motivated Dimple and helped her get out of this phase. Many years later, we made another film, Pyaar Mein Twist (2005),” said the veteran actor.
