High fire risk, gusty winds today and tomorrow

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Monday and Tuesday are both 6 First Alert Weather Days as gusty winds increase fire risk.

Late this morning, southerly winds will gust at speeds of 30 to 35 miles per hour.

The greatest fire risk is south of the metro.

Temperatures are in the low 80s, well above average for the last days of October.

Because there will still be a bit of a breeze tonight, temperatures won’t drop into the 60s until Tuesday morning.

Winds will really pick up on Tuesday with gusts of 45 to 50 miles per hour.

This means that any fires that do occur will likely quickly get out of control.

Highs will be in the mid 80s in the afternoon before a front arrives overnight.

The chance of storms increases as we approach Wednesday morning, with one or two possibly containing some hail.

Intermittent showers and storms will continue throughout the day, with rain totals likely to reach half an inch by the time the evening ends.

Halloween looks dry, with highs in the mid-50s, while fall-like temperatures will continue through the weekend.

The chances of showers return on Saturday and Sunday.
