Pedestrian killed in crash identified by Phoenix PD; involved off-duty MCSO employee

Phoenix Police Department officials have released new details about a deadly crash that occurred over the weekend.

In a statement released Monday morning, police said the crash occurred on Oct. 26 around 7 p.m. near 51st Avenue and Baseline Road.

“When officers arrived, they found the adult female pedestrian, identified as 35-year-old Marche Mercado, with serious injuries. Mercado was transported to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately she did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased. The vehicle involved remained behind. on site,” read part of the statement.

Police say based on preliminary information, the victim was crossing 51st Avenue just north of Baseline when she was struck in the middle of the street by the involved vehicle.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that one of the people involved in the crash was an off-duty employee. However, the spokesperson was unable to identify the off-duty employee involved and referred us to the Phoenix Police Department for further investigation into the matter.
