Thief is caught using stolen credit card after breaking into SUV

TAMARAC, Florida. – Deputies are investigating after a man was caught on camera using a stolen credit card after breaking into an SUV in Tamarac three months ago, authorities confirmed Monday.

The robbery occurred on July 14 near the 9000 block of Northwest 58th Street just before 7 p.m., according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the victim’s purse, containing identification, credit cards and other personal items, was stolen after someone broke the rear passenger window of her white 2021 Jeep Cherokee and took her $1,700 designer purse.

The next day, deputies said surveillance footage captured a man wearing a white shirt and dark shorts using one of the stolen credit cards to buy a 4,000-watt generator for $961.93 at a Home Depot in North Lauderdale. Investigators say the culprit also made fraudulent purchases in Coral Springs.

Detectives released surveillance video to identify the culprit, and Local 10 viewers can watch it at the top of this page.
