Motorcyclist caught speeding over 100 mph in Redding, says CHP

An unlicensed motorcyclist was ticketed after California Highway Patrol troopers said he was traveling more than 100 mph along Interstate 5 in the Redding area Monday morning.

The CHP said the Redding Communications Center received a call from a concerned driver about the motorcycle lane splitting and nearly causing accidents in the southbound lanes of I-5.

Officers found the motorcyclist and said he was traveling at 180 km/h. Authorities added that he had a driver’s license and was recently fined for speeding. The motorcycle was seized and the driver was charged.

The CHP added that VC 23123(C) makes it legal to use a cell phone while driving for emergency purposes. The agency thanked the driver who called to report the motorcyclist.
