Residents shocked after shooting at Hartford birthday party

HARTFORD, Ala. (WDHN) – Residents of a Hartford neighborhood were awakened by the sound of gunshots coming from a home on Third Avenue in Hartford on Sunday morning.

Early morning gunfire caught neighbors off guard on the normally quiet street

“It was shocking and surprising at the same time,” said Steve Tolver.

Reports say the scene looked like a war zone, with almost 50 shell casings lying on the ground after gunfire erupted at a birthday party with almost 50 people in attendance.

Neighbors say the party was going on as planned, but then out-of-town guests showed up and an argument ensued that escalated into shots fired through the home’s window.

Three people were caught in the shooting: one was shot in the leg, another in the arm and the third was shot in the neck and is being treated at a Mobile hospital.

Neighbors say this is the first time in a long time that a shooting has occurred on their street.

“No, not like that. This is the first time,” Tolver said.

Other neighbors tell us they were traumatized, including a teenager who says he can’t believe the shooting happened on a street where many children live.

No arrests were made. Due to the small size of the Hartford police department, the State Bureau of Investigation is responsible for the investigation.

It is an active investigation and authorities are expected to release new information later this week or early next week.
