Darwen man seriously injured in city center disorder

A man was seriously injured during a disorder in the city center involving several people, police said.

The victim, aged 30, was attacked in Church Street, Darwen, at around 11.45pm GMT on Saturday, Lancashire Police said.

He was taken to hospital with a serious head injury, where he remains in a critical but stable condition, the force added.

Police have appealed for witnesses and any footage of the incident, adding that no arrests have been made.

Det Insp Mark Green said: “This incident resulted in a man suffering a serious head injury and it is imperative that those who witnessed what happened come forward.

“Our investigations to establish exactly what occurred and identify all those involved are ongoing.”

He added: “We know there are witnesses who have not yet spoken to us and I would urge anyone with information or who saw any suspicious vehicles in the area at the time to contact police as soon as possible.”
