Jake Paul explains what made him think about taking his own life and the plan he had

Jake Paul’s checklist:

Rich. To check.

About to get richer. Check again.

Famous. To check.

About to get more famous. Check again.

But as Paul prepared for his highly anticipated fight against Mike Tyson on Nov. 15, he told The Hollywood Reporter about darker times, which he says included a suicide plan.

It was easily the most surprising revelation in The Hollywood Reporter’s in-depth story on Paul, published on Wednesday and covering a turbulent time for Paul in Southern California several years ago.

“I had a plan,” Jake Paul said. “I mean, it’s (expletive) crazy. I was going to put a bunch of gas cans in my Lamborghini, get really drunk, and drive off a cliff in Calabasas. It’s called Stunt Road.”

Paul addressed what led to the plan he never attempted. His parents divorced when he was 7 and Logan was 9, and it was “by all accounts an ugly split,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. His rude behavior led to him being sued by the owner and fired by Disney. And in late 2017, his older brother, Logan, visited the “suicide forest” in Japan, filmed a suicide victim and posted the footage on YouTube.

“I got caught up in all of my brother’s hate,” Jake Paul said. “It was like, ‘(Expletive) the Pauls. (Expletive) both people.’ It was bad. The suicide forest thing basically ruined my career and income. I lost probably $30 million in business. There was a $15 million deal for retail products that fell through. ”

This led to problematic behavior, Jake Paul said.

“Basically, life hit me in the face and I thought, ‘Who are you? What have you been doing in recent years? ” he said. “That led to drinking and drugs and L.A. and going to parties and that whole world. I got sucked into it very quickly.”

Jake Paul continued: “And there I am: broke, kind of hating myself, the whole world hates me. I’m drinking. I’m depressed and I don’t have a good relationship with either of my parents or Logan. …I just felt bad about life and all the letters I was dealt. It was (expletive). I just tried to do good all my life and here I am with what seems like nothing.”

And no, Paul said he did not carry out his catastrophic plan.

“I wasn’t going to let them win,” he said. “I was like, ‘I’m going to fight. That’s what every social media hater wants is to wake up and see Jake Paul killing himself.’ ”

Paul, who began a professional boxing career in 2020, said the sport saved his life. He is 10-1 with seven knockouts and also co-founded Most Valuable Promotions, which manages a group of fighters that includes multi-time world champion Amanda Serrano.

“It’s purpose, routine, health, community — all the things I needed,” he said. “Since 2020 he has been number one in boxing and everything else comes after. I never really liked YouTube. I was good at it.

Jake Paul Donald Trump fan

Jake Paul is an ardent supporter of Donald Trump and said he fears what will happen if Trump loses to Vice President Kamala Harris in the Nov. 5 general election.

“I think America will fall, the borders will open, tens of millions of illegal criminals and people from other countries will come in,” he said. “And I think freedom of speech will probably be taken away from us in a secret and complicated way that we can’t technically track.”

Jake Paul says he was physically abused by his father

Paul said his father physically abused him and his brother, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and that the abuse lasted from childhood until the brothers left for Los Angeles in their late teens.

“He was punching us, slapping us, throwing us down stairs, throwing things at us, mental abuse, manipulation,” said Jake Paul, who later explained, “Let’s say he’s on the phone, and my brother and I were whispering a for the other. other. And he said, ‘Stop whispering (expletive)!’ and whips something into my head. There is punishment and then there is abuse. He simply took his anger out on us. He’s getting divorced, losing everything – and we were the closest people to him.
