The Bloober team needs to give Capcom its due competition now with more Silent Hill remakes

Story Highlights

  • The recently released remake of Silent Hill 2 is far from what any of us really expected in terms of sheer quality.
  • Now that we realize that Bloober is quite capable, the developer should be working on more Silent Hill remakes next.
  • Capcom’s pre-established dominance could be influenced by Bloober if it continues to remake titles.

Let me tell you something: no one really I genuinely saw this coming. THE quality level on display here far exceeds all expectations previously set by Bloober Team and their respective Silent Hill 2 remake reveals. I bought the game a few days ago and it’s the only thing I look forward to playing at the end of my work day when I get back to home.

I’m sure it’s the same case with many, many of you out there.

We’re dealing with a Game of the Year that showcases Bloober’s great effort and talent, and there’s no other way around it. But the problem is: Bloober will expand its development efforts and think about another remake in the future, as long as Konami’s editorial hand rests on your shoulder? I sure hope so.

If things go this way, Capcom would feel more than just a slight turbulence to its established eminence in the remake department. And that coming from a relatively smaller developer who has worked on projects like The Medium and Layers of Fear in the past would be quite something.

Taking everything into consideration, I consider Capcom to be nothing less than the undisputed king of remakesand rightly so. Take a look at the original counterparts to Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 and take a closer look at how much the Japanese industry giant has upped its game (sorry for the pun) for the respective reimaginings of said titles.

The difference is worlds apart.

While it’s understood that Capcom needs to focus more on forgotten franchises, and it pains me to witness how continually ignored Dino Crisis is in that department, the work the developer has done so far is simply incredible, even if fans – myself included – they don’t always get what they want from Capcom.

And the best part? Capcom is gauging interest in more remakeswhich means there’s a lot more to look forward to on this front. Bloober still has a long way to go before catching up to Capcom’s legacy and then establishing its own, but it’s apparent there is huge potential on the table here, which the Polish developer needs to capitalize on.

Silent Hill 2 and Bloober’s absolute effort

Bloober Team has been in the market for 15 years, with its most notable works belonging to the horror genre. Despite creating titles like Layers of Fear, The Medium, and Observer, Bloober had never led a project on the same level as Silent Hill 2 before, so it was easy to assume the developer would screw up. before the release of the remake.

In fact, this was practically cemented when Konami released the Silent Hill 2 combat trailer, causing a lot of concern and confusing the franchise’s community. Bloober’s CEO, however, asked for players’ trust soon after, likely knowing that what the studio is preparing behind the scenes will look fantastic when the time comes – and it did!

The fact is: Silent Hill 2 – talking here about the 2001 original – is actively considered one of the best examples of the survival horror genre, so the pressure on Bloober to do the latter justice must have been tremendous. The developers inside their offices must be sweating bullets, but it turns out that all that patience mixed with passion has more than paid off.

The following behind-the-scenes video shows the development of Silent Hill 2’s sound design. That’s strain to speak.

When will the next Silent Hill remake arrive?

This is a question that is on the minds of everyone going through the remake right now. We all know how ephemeral this joy is. I can almost feel that fleeting pleasure once I earn the title, though I haven’t yet, so before we venture outside of Silent Hill, Maine, when can we expect to dive back in?

Well, from a remake perspective, another iteration in the same vein is probably very far awaywhereas Konami must now focus on the rest of the Silent Hill projects it announced in October 2022. These include:

  • Return to Silent Hill
  • Silent Hill F
  • Silent Hill: City
  • SIlent Hill: Rise

Townfall, a spin-off game, has been handed over to independent Stories Untold developer No Code, and Konami will also co-produce it. Ascension will be an interactive streaming series, similar to Black Mirror on Netflix, where Return to Silent Hill is planned to be a full-length film. film adaptation. Finally, Silent Hill F is another spinoff game, which has only had a teaser released so far.

Silent Hill’s future looks bright, especially with how Silent Hill 2 started, but I have a hard time playing anything else these days just because great the remake is really over. We hope pertinent news arrives sooner rather than later.
