“Working on this record felt like a warm, sacred homecoming,” Dibb said in a press release. “Noah and I began recording music on multitrack cassette tape in 1991. 32 years later and working in the same way, two friends alone in a room searching for the sounds and feelings that move us, I am so proud of what we have created together. Sinister Grift It feels like the composer I’ve known for over 30 years, but it also feels like a new chapter of sorts for Noah. I couldn’t be more proud of the result.”

To support Sinister GriftPanda Bear will embark on a North American tour in 2025 alongside Toro y Moi. After completing a run of UK/EU shows in December 2024, the North American run kicks off February 6 in Minneapolis and continues through the winter with shows in Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Boston, New York, Washington DC, Nashville and more.

Panda Bear’s new song “Defense” features Cindy Lee (nickname of Canadian musician Patrick Flegel), who is currently in the midst of a big year following the release of her album Diamond Jubilee. Lee plays guitar on the track, which finds Lennox singing in a mid-tempo trot. It’s a more naturalistic, classic take on Panda Bear, complete with acoustic drums, warm harmonies, and stunning electric guitar work from Lee. Stream “Defesa” below.

Before his return this week, Panda Bear also collaborated with his Animal Collective bandmate Avey Tare on the 2024 single “Vampire Tongues” and contributed a remix of Paramore’s “Running Out of Time” to the year’s reimagined compilation past. Re: That’s why.
