Voltalia strengthens its solar offer for farmers

Voltalia
(Euronext Paris, ISIN code: FR0011995588), an international player in renewable energy, announces that its subsidiary Helexia has acquired 28 megawatts of photovoltaic agricultural warehouses in France. Terravene, Voltalia’s subsidiary dedicated to the transport of agricultural land, now contributes to the range of services offered to farmers

Helexia acquired 202 solar roofs on agricultural buildings. They are all in operation and benefit from electricity sales contracts lasting 20 years.

Together, Voltalia and its subsidiaries Helexia and Terravene are implementing complementary services for farmers:

Agrivoltaics and ecological grazing

  • In March 2021, Voltalia commissioned its first agrivoltaic project, Cabanon1which combines the production of commercial gardens and the generation of photovoltaic electricity on the same land, with dynamic shadows that protect the crop from extreme weather conditions (excessive sun, hail).
  • Since 2023, Terravene, a dedicated subsidiary of Voltalia, has been developing a land portability offer to support the installation of young farmers. This solution, financed by the installation of an agrovoltaic park on part of the land, is a response to the challenges of ensuring the long-term future of local agricultural holdings and generational renewal.
  • After implementing projects that combine solar production and ecological sheep grazing, Voltalia developed agrivoltaic solutions for sheep and livestock farming. In September 2024, Voltalia ordered Poisy2 demonstrator, designed to measure and analyze the precise effects of photovoltaic installations on livestock farming, particularly in terms of animal welfare, daily animal behavior and the quality and quantity of forage production.

Solar roofs on agricultural buildings

  • Since March 2022, Helexia has been offering agricultural hangar solutions with photovoltaic roofs. These hangars mainly house agricultural machinery, livestock or crops.
  • Voltalia offers individual self-consumption solar roofs that farmers are interested in on their homes.

Voltalia, Helexia and Terravene are now cooperating on a joint offering: 1,2,3 Sun3. The solar and agricultural experience of these three actors is complementary. They allow us to offer solutions tailored to farmers’ needs. THE 1,2,3 Sun The offer provides concrete answers to questions of sustainability and development of agricultural holdings and the challenges of generational renewal, while enabling the production of renewable electricity.

Voltalia and Helexia’s photovoltaic projects developed together with agricultural activities, in particular agrivoltaics and agricultural photovoltaic hangars, total a capacity of more than 190 megawatts and are expanding rapidly: x2.5 since the beginning of 2023. This French portfolio will continue to grow, with sites currently under development representing a potential capacity of more than one gigawatt.

The acquisition of these new photovoltaic agricultural hangars once again demonstrates our commitment to contributing to the energy transition, offering tailor-made solutions for farmers, in addition to our offer for industrial and commercial customers”, says Benjamin Simonis, CEO of the Helexia Group.

“By combining the strengths of Helexia, Terravene and Voltalia, we provide the agricultural sector with innovative and sustainable energy solutions that combine with very long-term agricultural production”adds Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia.
