Woman in wheelchair killed in hit-and-run on Reservoir Drive


PHILADELPHIA — A woman in a wheelchair was killed Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run on Reservoir Drive, police said.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:46 a.m. in the 2200 block of Reservoir Drive. Preliminary investigation indicates that an unidentified vehicle, possibly silver, struck the woman and fled the scene. The direction of travel of the vehicle is not yet clear.

The impact of the collision was severe, authorities said. The woman was thrown to the south side of the block, while her wheelchair was found broken on the opposite side. Philadelphia Fire Department Medic 25 responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead at 1:56 a.m.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Accident Investigation Division is investigating the incident and working to identify the vehicle involved. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 215-684-3180 or call 911. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

  • Man dies five days after being shot in Portland

    PORTLAND, Ore. — A man died in the hospital five days after being shot in Northeast Portland, authorities said.

    Anthony Dwayne Bell, Jr., 38, of Portland, was shot on Friday, October 4, 2024, while driving near Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Columbia Boulevard. According to Portland police, an officer en route to an unrelated call was flagged down around 5:43 p.m. for a vehicle crash at the intersection. The officer discovered that Bell had been shot before the accident.

    Emergency medical services responded to the scene and Bell was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. He died from his injuries on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

    The Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) was called to the scene to investigate. Preliminary findings indicate the shooting occurred when a suspect or suspects in another vehicle opened fire on Bell’s car. The suspects fled the scene and no one was arrested.

    No description of the suspects has been released and the investigation remains ongoing.

  • Suspect arrested in Boston Commons stabbing incident

    Boston, MA – Officers from District A-1, while on patrol on Tuesday, October 1, were alerted to an attack and assault that had occurred at Boston Commons, near Brewer Fountain. Upon arrival, they found a male victim with multiple stab wounds. Officers administered first aid, including applying a tourniquet, before the victim was transported to a hospital.

    District A-1 detectives began an investigation and identified the suspect, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant. The investigation culminated in the arrest of Philip Chen, age 27, of Quincy, MA.

    On Saturday, October 12, at 12:10 p.m., the Drug Control Units of Districts A-1, E-5, and D-4 arrested Chen in downtown Boston. He was seen at the intersection of Summer and Otis streets during a separate drug investigation, and officers, aware of his warrant, arrested him without incident.

    Chen faces charges in Boston Municipal Court for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assaulting an elderly and/or disabled person with serious injury, and theft under $250 from an elderly and/or disabled person .
