A Petersburg man died in an ATV crash Monday evening, Indiana State Police said

A Petersburg, Indiana, man died Monday evening after the all-terrain vehicle he was driving reportedly struck a ditch along a rural stretch of road in Pike County.

Indiana State Police are leading an investigation into the single-vehicle crash. The agency identified the victim as 73-year-old Gerald Russell.

According to a state police news release, the incident occurred Monday around 11:20 p.m. near the intersection of Cart Road and County Road 250 West. State police said Russell was driving a “Honda four-wheeler.”

“For unknown reasons, his vehicle left the northbound lane, struck the ditch and rolled several times,” the statement said.

The Pike County Coroner’s Office pronounced Russell dead at the scene. The ISP’s investigation is still ongoing.
