Kachina and Kinich are silent in the English dub

Update 5.1 for Genshin Impact is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, iOS and Android, continuing the fiery story arc set in Natlan. However, two of the community’s favorite characters introduced in the previous version of the game will remain silent throughout the new story, despite having a role to play: Kachina and Kinich’s (as well as their companion, Ajaw’s) English lines are missing.

This is not a bug, as the update’s patch notes confirm. “Due to recording arrangements, some of the content in version 5.1 is not dubbed in English. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused,” the change log states.

This is the first time that the live version of Genshin Impact – and the main story arc – has been affected by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA voice actor strike. Fans already felt the effect of the strike while watching the Genshin Impact 5.1 live stream, which did not feature the usual contingent of VAs hosting it, instead being led by two members of the HoYoverse localization team.

Honkai: Star Rail’s marketing has also been affected by the strike, with recent trailers lacking an English dub, although the game itself has been doing well so far. Of HoYoverse’s three big titles, only Zenless Zone Zero has remained unchanged until now.

This can be explained by the fact that all three games have their English dubs managed by different external studios – HoYoverse itself does not control this part of the production.

Most of Genshin Impact’s voiceovers are done by Formosa, who was in the news last year for withholding Paimon’s VA payments and is one of the main targets of the strike. VAs are currently fighting for better protections against their work being used to train AI without their consent.

If you want to get the most out of the current Archon Quest, it is advisable to hold off and play it later when the missing voice lines have been fixed. for playing the story in the current update.
