First responders rescued a hiker who was seriously injured Sunday afternoon at the Rocky Narrows Reservation in Sherborn, officials said.

At 4:19 p.m., emergency services responded to the Forest Street reservation for a report of an injured hiker, This is evident from a statement from the Sherborn Fire & Rescue Department.

The hiker was found about a mile into the woods with “significant injuries,” the statement said.

Medical interventions began within 18 minutes of reporting the incident.

The Sherborn Fire Department drove a UTV about three-quarters of the way to the patient, the statement said, and crews had to carry the hiker from the incident scene about a quarter mile back to the UTV over “difficult terrain.”

UMass Memorial LifeFlight, a medical helicopter, landed at Pine Hill School to transport the patient to a trauma center, the department said.

Seventeen members of the Sherborn Fire and Rescue Department responded, including the Drone Unit and Sherborn Police Department.

Mutual aid from Dover, Framingham, Holliston, Millis, Ashland and Natick also aided in the rescue.

“The response to today’s incident in Sherborn shows why departments in our region regularly train together,” said the The Holliston Fire Department said in a statement. “Personnel from multiple agencies worked together to seamlessly complete the incident objectives.”
