Indianapolis Colts Icon has stern messages for Anthony Richardson

Indianapolis foals quarterback Anthony Richardson had a brutal crackdown on the Houston Texans in one week eight loss only to drop to 4-4 this season. While many pundits, analysts and pundits have essentially done just that took apart Richardson’s bad Sunday afternoonPat McAfee was perhaps the most expressive of frustration watching Indianapolis’ offensive struggles at NRG Stadium.

In an episode of The Pat McAfee ShowMcAfee broke off the part where Richardson withdrew from the game and expressed his feelings.

McAfee said: “I’ve never seen that before. I’ve never seen that in my life as a quarterback.” Multiple talking heads in the NFL have shared similar responses to McAfee’s. He later continued:

“An NFL quarterback doesn’t take advantage of a play, especially if they can go play, that’s kind of part of the position. It’s kind of like that. You’re the face of the franchise whenever you want.” if you are healthy, what message are you sending to everyone in the building?

Simply put, Richardson leaving the game for any reason other than an injury that should sideline him is unacceptable in such an important game as week eight against the Texans. It’s also a horrible look for the teammates and coaches watching their QB. Although Indy looked terrible with their passing offense and the receivers had trouble helping Richardson, the team was never completely out of contention to win, trailing by just three points. If Richardson and the rest of Shane Steichen’s plan squeeze an extra play or two out of it, maybe the game ends differently and the Colts are 5-3 (2-2 division).

A final exclamation from McAfee was short but serious, saying (about Richardson’s actions): “You’re getting your discharge, brother.”

This will be a tough week for Richardson to ask questions about what happened against the Texans. However, the young field general and Indianapolis can’t look to the past with a primetime matchup on Sunday Night Football looming against the Minnesota Vikings. We’ll see what happens for Indianapolis as they navigate an ocean of drama and headlines as they try to prepare for a tough opponent on the road.
