The presidential choice of George W. Bush’s daughter could be surprising

While former President George W. Bush has stayed out of the presidential race, his daughter just announced who she will support.

Barbara Pierce Bush, 42, revealed in a statement to People magazine Tuesday that she will support Vice President Kamala Harris over former President Donald Trump. The magazine reported that Bush spent part of her weekend campaigning for vice president in the state of Pennsylvania, which is seen as a must-win state for Democrats.

“It was inspiring to gather with friends and voters this weekend during the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania,” she said in her statement to People. “I am hopeful that they will move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”

Her father, a Republican president who served from 2001 to 2009, has not endorsed anyone in the 2024 election. But his vice president, Dick Cheney has said he will vote for Harris. Cheney’s daughter, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), endorsed Harris and has remained so ever since on the campaign trail for her.

People magazine noted that Barbara Pierce Bush told the magazine earlier in 2010 that she does not identify itself with either political party. However, she spoke up a Planned Parenthood fundraiser in 2017 on the importance of access to healthcare for women.

Dozens of other Republicans have spoken out in support of Harris in her fight against the former president. The Harris campaign has done just that expressed her support among Republicans and former Trump officials, using their own words to explain why they think Trump is unfit for office.

With just a few days to go until November 5, both campaigns are scrambling to deliver a final message to undecided voters. Harris will deliver her closing message to voters Tuesday at the Ellipse in Washington, DC.

A week after Election Day, Harris’ speech from the grassy Ellipse near the White House is aimed at encouraging Americans to visualize their alternative future if she or Trump takes over the Oval Office in less than three months.
