KINGSFORD — A 1920s mob wedding will be the setting for a special murder mystery fundraising dinner Friday night at Venue 906 in Kingsford.

MJE Cares, MJ Electric’s nonprofit organization, is organizing the event to raise money for ongoing community work.

The dinner theater is hosted by Grand Rapids-based The Murder Mystery Co., themed “Death of a gangster.”

According to the company’s website: “Lucky you! You’ve been invited to Dunn Speakeasy for the wedding of the year! In this ‘married to the mob’ event, you’ll never know who to trust. With the merger of the two families, someone will lose power, which means someone else will lose their life! Hop on the cart and solve this case with your fellow detectives.

“Dress up like the cat’s meow for this Mafia wedding! Flapper dresses, zoot suits, feather boas and tiaras, striped suits, and fedora hats are all appropriate. Traditional wedding attire is cool too!” the website states.

“We wanted to offer something different – a fundraiser that brings the community together in a fun and interactive way, while supporting a great cause,” said event coordinator Jennifer Pericolosi. “The Murder Mystery Gala will be a fantastic night for anyone who enjoys a good challenge, with plenty of twists and turns to keep guests on their toes.”

Actors from The Murder Mystery Co. will be scattered among the participants, playing the main suspects in a story that will unfold throughout the night.

“There are three cast members and they choose people from the audience to become involved in the murder mystery itself,” Pericolosi said.

As guests dine and mingle, they collect clues, question suspects and collaborate to uncover the culprit behind the crime. Prizes will be awarded to the best detectives who solve the case.

Guests are encouraged to dress in their best 1920s-inspired outfits, with a prize offered for the best costume, adding an extra layer of fun to the evening. In addition to solving mysteries, the event will feature a silent auction and raffle.

Doors open at 5pm. The cost, which includes dinner and entertainment, is $65 per person. Tickets are available online at https://venue-906-llc.square.site. There are also prices for couples and tables.

The event is part of ongoing fundraising for MJE Cares, Pericolosi said. According to the company’s website, “MJE Cares provides financial assistance to employees in need, community programs, charitable services and community members in need.”

“We were just looking for a way to involve the community in our fundraising efforts and thought it would be a fun idea,” Pericolosi said.

“Our community is in our hearts and our goal is to raise funds to continue to make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve,” she said.
