Gurley woman tragically killed in ‘fatal confrontation’

MADISON CO., Ala. (WAF) – A woman is dead in what officials are calling a “fatal confrontation” in the Gurley community.

Officers with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to Brownsboro Road in Gurley just before 4 a.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they contacted the victim’s husband and daughter, 46-year-old Amanda Cook.

Officials say a preliminary investigation revealed Cook suffered from mental health issues and believed her daughter and husband were conspiring against her. She claimed their cell phones had been hacked.

As a result of Cook’s manic episode, the husband and daughter attempted to leave the house, but to prevent this, Cook pulled out a knife and injured her daughter.

Despite the incident, the two were able to leave the home and fled to his car. As the man left, Cook was struck by the vehicle. She succumbed to her injuries.

“While the incident remains under investigation and the circumstances surrounding the fatal confrontation are being thoroughly investigated, the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident will likely determine it to be an accidental death. No arrests have been made at this time.”

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim and those affected by this tragic event. The investigation is ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
