Officers arrest a man suspected of narcotics trafficking in Greenfield

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – A man was taken into custody after police found narcotics on him in Greenfield last Friday.

According to Massachusetts State Police, just before 2 a.m., officers noticed a car speeding on I-91 in Greenfield without a valid license plate.

Earlier that evening, the same car was towed after officers determined the driver had a suspended driver’s license.

After the car was pulled over, troopers identified the driver as 33-year-old Deven Barrette of Vermont and confirmed he was the same person involved in previous interactions.

He was arrested and while troopers searched him, they found a device containing suspected crack cocaine and 50 grams of suspected heroin.

While searching his car, officers found a bag containing items used to package and sell illegal narcotics, as well as cash.

Barrette was arraigned Tuesday morning in Greenfield District Court on the following charges:

  • Trafficking in heroin/fentanyl
  • Driving a motor vehicle without a license
  • Driving too fast
  • License plate violation.
