Police: Gansevoort man driving stolen vehicles, caught at Canadian border

A Gansevoort man is accused of stealing two vehicles and fleeing to Canada.

State police said Aaron D. Freedman, 35, stole a car from a home off Route 32 in Gansevoort on Oct. 14. The owner found the vehicle nearby and Freedman was believed to be inside. When approached, Freedman ran away. He had a long gun but did not fire it, police said.

A search did not find him. The stolen vehicle was returned to the owner.

On October 15, Homeland Security agents located Freedman in the Champlain Port of Entry area, and he was arrested. Freedman was driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Gansevoort in the early morning of October 15 after the other theft. The police found the long gun.

Freedman was charged with criminal possession of stolen property. He was arraigned in Moreau Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
