It’s a long way from the dirt tracks of Railway Bore in the remote desert of northern South Australia to the affluent enclave of Marylebone in west London. And yet, recently on display at Mint Gallery, known for finely crafted, limited-edition furniture, were a sideboard, armoire and low chairs that were carved to evoke the Australian outback.

The result of a collaboration between self-proclaimed “design anthropologist” Trent Jansen, who lives and works on the Thirroul coast, south of Sydney, and Tanya Singer, a Minyma Anangu woman who comes from a family of artists and creators, the Manta Pilti (The Dry Sand series) aims to elegantly evoke climate change.
