Mumbai Civic Body announces 5-10% water cut across city from October 17-18

Mumbai:

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday announced a 5-10 percent water cut in Mumbai from October 17-18, citing a valve failure in a pipeline in Thane district.

A BMC release said a 900 mm valve on the Vaitarna gas pipeline at Tarali in the neighboring district developed fault, necessitating partial shutdown of the water supply system. It is expected to be repaired in around 48 hours, the civic body said.

“Consequently, there was a 5% to 10% reduction in supply to the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant, which supplies water to Greater Mumbai,” the statement said, justifying the water cut in the city from Thursday to Friday.

Water for the city and suburbs of Mumbai comes mainly from the Vaitarna dam.

The civic body has requested citizens to stock up on water and use it judiciously, the statement added.
