Things to do in Vancouver: Christmas market tickets are $25 off

Vancouver’s popular German-inspired Christmas Market is offering discounts on advance ticket sales.

The Vancouver Christmas Market at Jack Poole Plaza is the city’s largest, returning annually with a selection of craft vendors, hearty food and sweet sips.

This year’s holiday event features more than 90 cabins, daily live performances, a carousel, magical light displays, a new Christmas tree and a new lovers’ street.

The Sky Light Curtain will also dazzle guests “with more than 22,000 individual bulbs, illuminating the Tannenbaum Terrace.”

German vendor Bratwurst Haus serves “delicious grilled sausages on freshly baked buns, complemented perfectly with tangy German mustard,” while another, Das Champignon Haus, serves a popular German street food: sautéed mushrooms in a creamy garlic sauce.

You can also enjoy mini pancakes with sweet toppings, croissant waffles, strudels, chimney cakes, toasted nuts and churros. There are pierogies, grilled cheese sandwiches, hearty soups and lángos (Hungarian fried flatbread with toppings like sour cream, bacon and cheese).

The market offers a variety of drinks to enjoy, including traditional German “sweet and spicy” apple drinks, hot chocolate and a line of caffeinated drinks including lattes, cappuccinos and espressos.

Visitors can also enjoy adult beverages, including beers and the popular German Christmas drink, Feuerzangenbowle. To do this, a rum-soaked sugar loaf is set on fire and melted in a pot of hot, spiced Glühwein (mulled wine). The toasted mixture creates an “aromatic drink with a hint of caramel sweetness.”

This year’s vendors offer everything from all-natural handmade soaps in more than 20 varieties to handcrafted soy and beeswax candles, a felting shop to German glass ornaments, Japanese porcelain to handcrafted wooden items and more.

Tickets are reduced by up to $25 for families who purchase tickets now. Tickets can be purchased for a day visit or as a season pass.
