Accused Hackensack arsonist caught breaking into New Milford library: police

At 11:19 p.m., officers were dispatched to the New Milford Public Library for a report of a activated burglar alarm, New Milford police said. When officers arrived on scene, officers noticed a broken rear window of the building with broken glass inside and out, police said.

A perimeter was established around the building and when officers checked the library’s security system, they discovered that a person, later identified as Patrick Fearon, was in the building. Fearon was located under a bench in the hallway and was arrested.

Fearon was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and trespassing, police said.

Last month, Fearon was accused of setting fire to an unoccupied Fort F350 pickup owned by Bergen County, which spread to another pickup, also owned by the county, in the Bergen County Academies parking lot on Hackensack Avenue on Thursday, Sept. 19, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Fearon approached the truck in the parking lot, shattered the driver’s side window and started the fire using an accelerant, Musella said. Fearon then fled the area without notifying authorities of the fire, authorities said.
