Messi discusses future retirement after five-star performance for Argentina

Lionel Messi delivered another masterclass for Argentina, scoring three goals and providing two assists in a dominant victory over Bolivia in South American World Cup qualifying.

The 37-year-old maestro, returning to action after missing the September rounds due to injury, was in top form as The Albiceleste passed through Bolivia in front of a noisy crowd.

Messi’s excellent performance not only helped Argentina maintain their lead in the CONMEBOL standings, but also added another memorable chapter to his already illustrious career.

Messi discusses his future

After the final whistle, Messi reflected on his journey with the national team, hinting at the possibility of the twilight of his international career.

“It’s great to come here, feel the affection of the people. It moves me how they shout my name”, shared Messi as quoted by Albiceleste Talk, recognizing the deep bond with his fans.

When asked about his future, particularly with regard to his participation in the 2026 World Cup, Messi remained open, but reflective.

“I don’t have a set date or deadline for my future, I just want to enjoy it all. It moves me more than ever to be here and feel people’s love because I know these could be my last matches.”

He continued: “It motivates me. I like to be happy where I am. Despite my age, when I’m here, I feel like a child because I feel comfortable with this team.

“As long as I feel good and can continue to perform the way I want to, we will continue to enjoy it.”
