For fans of the spooky and spooky, Halloween is an important day on the calendar and date the holiday season starts. It is expected to be the second largest commercial holiday after Christmas Day for Americans to spend $11.6 billion on costumes, candy and parties this year according to retail group the National Retail Federation.

But unlike upcoming celebrations like Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day, Halloween is not a federal holiday. As such, most shops and locations remain open on Thursday, October 31.

Almost all businesses and essential services will follow their usual opening hours, so you’ll have the chance to pick up some last-minute Halloween costumes and stock up on some treats.

Banks: Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo, CitiBank

Postal services: USPS, FedEx, UPS

Schools: All schools remain open as Halloween falls on a weekday this year.

Scholarship: The stock market will continue as normal on Halloween.
