Halsey Calls Out Pitchfork Over ‘Great Impersonator’ Review

Halsey Calls Out Pitchfork Over ‘Great Impersonator’ Review

In recent weeks Halsey has taken photos of her favorite musicians and debuts songs inspired by them for her album The great imitator. But now that the album is out, she is completely herself again. That’s because Halsey renewed her partnership with music site Pitchfork after the outlet gave up TGI a score of 4.8. Halsey turned writer Shaad D’Souza’s review into an old-fashioned promotional poster on Twitter, which read: “Halsey’s latest act impresses Shaad!” And the poster includes some factual quotes from D’Souza from the review, taken out of context, describing Halsey as “a hugely compelling artist” and “one of the most successful artists of their generation.” (The bit about the ‘studio noises and the murmur of chatter between takes’ was not quite a compliment.)

Yes, it’s cringe, but hey, cringe is better than violentand that’s what happened the last time Halsey joined Pitchfork. That was in 2020, when the site gave up Manic a 6.5 (a rave compared to TGI!), prompting Halsey to wonder if “the basement they’re running out of” already “might collapse.” But she apologized that time, not knowing that the Pitchfork office is literally inside One World Trade Center. Oops! But for the record: when Vulture said, ‘Halsey should just be herself’ us review of TGIwe didn’t mean to “go back to attacking music critics.”
