Oppo announces ColorOS 15 with new design language, focus on AI

Ahead of the anticipated launch of its Find X8 series flagships, Oppo announced ColorOS 15 – its Android 15-based skin.

It features an updated look and feel with new icons, dynamic lighting effects, natural light, and shadow elements throughout the user interface. The new Aurora and Tidal Engine bring system-level rendering, allowing you to run app animations in parallel so you can have responsive, lag-free animations when quickly switching between apps.

The system features new motion effects with consistently smooth animations and numerous system-level optimizations that have led to an 18% improvement in app responsiveness and a 26% faster app installation process. Oppo also brings a system-level dynamic cache allocation that manages resources in real time and ensures fluidity during operation.

Elsewhere, Oppo has finally relented and separated the notification shade from the control center.

AI plays an important role in ColorOS 15. The company’s XiaoBu Assistant can be summoned from any screen, and users can have natural conversations with continuous content-aware queries. There’s also a circle to search option that works on any screen.

Oppo is also bringing revised AI image processing with one-touch person and reflection removal, blur removal for portraits, and a smart image upscaling feature. Live Photos now supports electronic image stabilization (EIS)

There are several AI additions in other areas, such as the Notes app, which can format and summarize notes. There is a new document scanning feature with integrated summarization and cross-language translation. The voice recorder can also summarize and transcribe your recordings.

ColorOS 15 will come pre-installed on the upcoming Oppo Find X8 series and OnePlus 13 devices in China. Older models including the Find X7, Find N3, Find N3 Flip, and OnePlus Ace 3 series will receive the update starting in November.
