APD Investigates Homicide on Burton Drive in Southeast Austin

Police say a man was killed and found dead Wednesday night near an apartment complex in Southeast Austin.

A police spokesperson said officers were dispatched to the complex at 2121 Burton Drive around 10:35 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a shooting or stabbing. When officers arrived, they found a man in his 20s with “obvious head trauma” on a public road, he said.

Officer Austin Zarling said police attempted life-saving measures until medics arrived and took control, but he was pronounced dead at 10:57 p.m. Zarling said there were no suspects in custody, but it was believed to be an isolated incident with no threat to the general public.

Police ask that anyone with relevant information about the incident call the homicide tip line at 512-477-5389 or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.

The murder occurred just blocks from the scene of a double homicide on Monday. Zarling said investigators do not believe the two incidents are related. One arrest was made in the previous deaths.
