Search for injured manatee last seen near Kitty Hawk Bay

The OBX Marine Mammal Stranding Network is looking for an injured manatee with propeller wounds near its tail.

According to a recent social media post from the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island, the manatee was last seen Tuesday near Kitty Hawk Bay.

Conservation leaders are urging the public to report any sightings of this manatee or other stranded marine mammals to the Marine Mammal Stranding Hotline at 252-564-2733.

The network remains committed to helping stranded, entangled or injured marine mammals from the Virginia-North Carolina state line to Ocracoke, which stretches over 130 miles of coastline.

Earlier this month, a Florida manatee was killed after suffering a boat propeller strike in Bogue Sound.
