WATCH: Williams and Morris Dixon ‘ready’ for new roles

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Fayval Williams and Senator Dr. Dana Morris Dixon are energized for their new ministerial appointments.

Williams and Morris Dixon have been appointed Minister of Finance and Minister of Education respectively.

The new appointments were announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness at the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday and follow the resignation of Dr Nigel Clarke as Finance Minister to take up a position as Deputy Managing Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). .

After the announcement, Williams said Observer online“I am deeply honored and deeply humbled to have this opportunity to serve as Jamaica’s Minister of Finance. This role carries great responsibility and comes at a crucial time in our country’s journey.”

“We are in a time that continues to demand vision, resilience and a determined commitment to building a future that offers both stability and opportunity for all citizens. I assure you that I am prepared to continue working tirelessly to make this vision a reality,” Williams continued.

The former Education Minister noted that finance is more than balancing the books.

“It’s about ensuring that every resource we allocate, every policy we implement and every initiative we launch is a step towards a more prosperous and inclusive economy. And in this role, I pledge to prioritize accountability and innovation and to listen carefully to the needs and aspirations of those we serve,” Williams explains.

“Our economy, like those around the world, continues to face challenges, but I see in these challenges incredible opportunities to build on the foundation that has been laid to create an even more resilient country. We will continue to invest in the infrastructure needed for sustainable growth,” she said, extending her congratulations to Morris Dixon, who will replace her as Minister of Education.

Morris Dixon told it Observer online that her appointment came as a surprise, but said she was prepared to do whatever was necessary to help the Prime Minister achieve his goals.

“This is a new and surprising one, but I know it is very important. It is one that is very close to my heart, because I know the power of education. For anyone who has done well in Jamaica, education has played a very important role in that and so the goal is really to take that forward,” said Morris Dixon.

However, she noted that she had previously served on the education committee that drafted the Patterson Report and chaired two of the committees.

“So I know it deeply and I know the issues and I know we have some of the best teachers in the world. I know that in the Ministry of Education we have professionals who are working to make things happen, but there are many problems and so it will not be an easy portfolio, but it is an important one and I will do my best. can, with God’s help, contribute to its development,” said Morris Dixon.
