Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 sold 1,000,000 copies in less than a week – GameSpew

After playing it (and loving it), it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Silent Hill 2 remake has sold over a million copies. But this and a small surprise, albeit a pleasant one. Especially considering it’s only available on PC and PS5. In just a few days after its release on October 8th (or October 6th for those who purchased the digital deluxe edition), over 1,000,000 people purchased a physical or digital copy of the game. Result.

Not only is this a truly impressive milestone, but it also makes Silent Hill 2 the best-selling game in the franchise to date. According to VGChartz, the original Silent Hill 2 only sold one million copies in its entire lifespan. The best so far has been the original Silent Hill, racking up two million sales since its release in 1999. However, I question the accuracy of this data.

Still, it’s a testament to the excellent work Bloober Team did in recreating James Sunderland’s journey to Silent Hill. It’s just as scary and disturbing as the original game, with its enhanced (and gorgeous) visuals giving extra clarity to the horrific monsters he encounters. I’ll save you the rant: you can read our Silent Hill 2 review to read more about why it’s so good (after all, we gave it a 10/10).

I also hope this gives Konami a little more faith to ramp up production on more Silent Hill projects. We know there are several in development, including Townfall and F, but we haven’t heard much about them in almost two years. With the success of Silent Hill 2 under its belt, I hope Konami has the confidence to move forward full steam ahead on all of its Silent Hill-related projects.

With these millions of sales accumulated through October 11th alone, I would be so bold as to guess that many more copies of Silent Hill 2 will have been sold the following week. After all, this goes from the early access launch on Sunday, October 6th, until Friday. I think a lot more people will have purchased their copies over the weekend.

Bravo, Bloober team. And Konami, of course. It’s a sales milestone worth celebrating. Now continue with the great games.
