Some Dillon County school bus drivers did not drive due to the incident, superintendent said

DILLON, SC (WMBF) – Some Pee Dee school bus drivers didn’t hit the road Thursday morning, according to authorities.

In a statement provided to WMBF News, Dillon School District 4 Superintendent Ray Rogers said some drivers were not driving Thursday due to “an incident that happened Wednesday afternoon.”

“We have been working on some solutions to help with bus driver safety and student behavior,” the statement continues. “We feel like we’ve made great strides in communication so we’re all on the same page. We need the help of all our parents as we work together for our children.”

In a phone call with WMBF News on Thursday, Rogers explained that Wednesday’s incident involved a father who was upset because his son was being left home later than usual. According to Rogers, this father ended up on the bus at some point during the incident.

Rogers said some of the district’s buses have had to double routes due to a lack of drivers – changing the timing of some deliveries. He reiterated that he wants to keep bus drivers safe and that parents who get on buses pose a danger to both drivers and students.

WMBF News is working to learn more about Wednesday’s incident.
