The lyrics of this song by Aishwarya Rai were inspired by ‘road trucks’, it has a connection with Amitabh Bachchan

This fun and upbeat number from Bunty Aur Babli (2005) features a cameo by Rai with Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan.

The song was a hit in 2005 and currently has more than 450 million views on YouTube. The song was written by veteran lyricist Gulzar and he had a special source of inspiration for this song. In an old interview with Hindustan Times, Gulzar revealed that he was inspired to write Kajra Re by the lines painted on the back of road trucks.

Gulzar said, “Serious poetry would be out of place here. The song is mainly inspired by the verses one sees written on trucks speeding down the highways in northern India. Remember that the female protagonist is from a Punjabi family. She speaks a little English because his ambition is to compete in a beauty pageant. The boy is also a small-town guy in a hurry to get ahead in life.

Just like the song, the film Bunty Aur Babli was a superhit, grossing Rs 63 million worldwide. The film inspired a sequel 16 years after the original, with new cast members. Bunty Aur Babli 2 had Siddhant Chaturvedi with Sharvari Wagh and Abhishek Bachchan was replaced by Saif Ali Khan. However, the sequel failed commercially, with many claiming it spoiled memories of the original film.

Talking about Aishwarya, Abhishek and Amitabh, the Bachchans are in the headlines for several reasons. While Amitabh Bachchan is making waves with his work including Kaun Banega Crorepati 16.
