Former UK student convicted of campus assault that was caught on video

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A former University of Kentucky student has been convicted of assault on campus.

Sophia Rosing pleaded guilty in August.

The incident happened in November 2022. A video shows Rosing in a dorm room, hitting and yelling racial slurs at a black student worker.

A grand jury had previously indicted her on six charges, including assault and public intoxication. As part of a plea deal, the third-degree assault charge against her was changed to fourth-degree assault causing minor injury. She pleaded guilty to the other charges.

Thursday, Rosing was sentenced to 12 months in prison, 100 hours of community service and a $25 fine.

The University of Kentucky permanently banned her from campus following the incident.
