Detroit Police Chief James White denies ‘special treatment’ in Jameson Williams incident

DETROITDetroit Police Chief James White said he doesn’t believe it Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams received special treatment this month during a traffic stop in which two handguns were allegedly found.

“Well, we don’t know yet, do we? We don’t think so. I mean, we’ve had several incidents over the years where the officers’ actions were right, no big deal. But we want to make sure that the perception and the false narrative that he put out is proven or disproven, and that’s what we’re looking at.”

The traffic stop involving Williams occurred on October 8.

His attorney said Williams was a passenger in the car.

His lawyer also said the guns were properly registered and the driver had the proper paperwork.

Williams was not arrested or cited.

Now the department is conducting an internal investigation to determine whether officers on the scene made the right decision.

This is as the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is now investigating a warrant filed by the Detroit Police Department.

“We just received that warrant, so we need to look at it and handle it like we do any other case, as far as looking at it and seeing if we can charge and, if we can, what we would to ask. We just don’t know that at this point.”
