Chilean skydiver dies after both parachutes fail to deploy properly

Carolina Muñoz Kennedy recently went skydiving in Boituva, Brazil, when a tragedy occurred. When it was time to deploy Kennedy’s main parachute, it unexpectedly malfunctioned. As her reserve parachute deployed, she soon noticed that the lines were twisted.

According to the The sunKennedy had followed emergency protocols as she attempted to recover her lines, but was unable to do so and fell to the ground at a horrific rate. It was reported that she initially survived the fall, but despite receiving immediate medical attention and being transported to a nearby hospital, her injuries were too extensive for her to survive.

“She was lying there on the ground waiting for help and people were calling the fire brigade and the police,” said witness José Soares de Melo. “I felt incredibly sad and shocked.”

Witnesses at the scene reported that Kennedy had attempted an emergency landing as she had been trained to do, but ended up on the road after colliding with trees during her rapid descent.

Kennedy was an experienced skydiver who had completed numerous skydives before her final jump and was an active member of the Brazilian Skydiving Confederation. Besides her passion for skydiving, Fox News said she worked as a physical therapist and chiropractor. Just two days before this fateful day, she celebrated her 40th birthday.

Authorities are now investigating her parachuting equipment for forensic analysis. The Brazilian Skydiving Confederation (BSC) will also prepare a report.

“At this difficult time, our thoughts go out to our dear colleague, her family members and the entire parachuting community,” the BSC said. “We reiterate our commitment to the safety and integrity of everyone involved in the sport.”

Kennedy will be cremated this week and her ashes will be taken to Chile. The skydiving community, friends and family are currently mourning her tragic passing.
