Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide prevention is being held this weekend

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A local group featuring The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention organizes its annual Walking out of the darkness.

This will take place on Sunday, November 3 at St. James Episcopal Church. The event aims to raise awareness of a public health issue.

“Suicide does not affect anyone, age group, racial group, socio-economic group. It affects everyone and not one person looks like suicide,” said Leila Garriss, event organizer.

Each year they move the event to different areas in New Hanover County, but this year they are hosting it downtown in hopes of attracting more visitors.

You can expect health care services, a mental health therapist, food and games. Organizers say they are still looking for volunteers.
